There’s a quiet kind of poetry in decay — in the way time leaves its mark, turning something once powerful into something beautifully fragile. Broken Glass was inspired by that very idea. This weathered yellow GMC truck sits alone in a field, its windshield cracked, its paint faded and flaking — yet it still stands with a quiet kind of pride. For me, it represents resilience, memory, and the beauty that can only come with time.

I’ve always been drawn to the stories hidden in old machines — the miles they’ve traveled, the lives they’ve touched, and the silence they hold after their engines stop. When I painted Broken Glass, I wanted to capture more than just the image of an abandoned truck; I wanted to bring out the feeling that comes with seeing something left behind — still full of character, still reflecting the light of what once was.

The warm yellows and cool blues play against each other to create tension and harmony, like sunlight meeting shadow. The rust, scratches, and cracked windows are painted with layered brushwork to give the truck texture and depth — each imperfection telling its own story. The surrounding grass grows wild around the tires, gently reclaiming the metal, while the distant hills and open sky stretch endlessly behind, adding a sense of peace to the stillness.

To me, Broken Glass is about the passage of time — how beauty doesn’t fade, it just changes. It’s about the strength in standing where you are, even when the world has moved on. There’s grace in survival, even when life looks weathered.
