Whenever I think of peace, I picture a quiet stretch of sand somewhere along the Jamaican coast — a place where the ocean hums like a lullaby and time itself seems to slow down. Island Serenity was born from that feeling. It’s a reflection of home, of my lifelong love for the sea, and of all those early mornings when the first light touched the water and everything felt right with the world.

In this piece, a weathered fishing boat rests quietly on the sand, its paint faded but full of stories. The turquoise waves roll gently toward shore while seabirds glide effortlessly above, moving with the rhythm of the wind. Palm trees sway softly at the edges of the scene, framing the horizon like guardians of calm. Every element of this painting — the warm glow of the sand, the vivid blues of the ocean, and the movement in the sky — is meant to draw you in, to make you feel that sense of stillness and freedom that only the islands can offer.

Growing up in Kingston, I was surrounded by this beauty every day, though I didn’t always see it the way I do now. As an artist, I’ve come to understand how light, color, and atmosphere carry emotion. I wanted Island Serenity to do more than depict a beach; I wanted it to feel like one — to let you almost hear the surf and smell the salt in the air.

Painting it was like taking a deep breath. Each brushstroke was a meditation — slow, deliberate, and full of gratitude. The small details, like the coconuts scattered in the grass or the rope coiled on the sand, are reminders that simplicity is what makes life beautiful.
