“Just Resting” – print on canvas
Sometimes, even the strongest vessels need to rest. Just Resting was inspired by a moment of stillness — an old fishing boat lying gently against the shore, its journey paused but not forgotten. I saw beauty in its worn wood, in the faded paint, in the quiet dignity it carried after years of weather and waves. To me, it wasn’t a wreck — it was a survivor.
I’ve always been fascinated by boats and what they represent: movement, freedom, and endurance. Growing up near the water, I saw countless ships come and go, each with its own story. This one felt different. When I came across it, leaning softly on the sand, I felt a sense of peace. It seemed to whisper that even after long voyages and hard storms, there’s grace in slowing down — in simply being.
In this painting, I wanted to capture that emotion. The warm tones of the sand meet the cool blues of the sky and water, creating a calm, contemplative contrast. The rusted edges and peeling paint of the boat tell their own story of time — of strength tested and wisdom earned. The lush greenery in the background hints that life continues to grow, even around something that has stopped moving.
Every brushstroke was intentional — the textures of the hull, the shadows beneath it, the soft curve of the shoreline. The boat’s tilted position gives a sense of humility, but also resilience. It’s not defeated; it’s simply resting.
Just Resting combines realism and atmosphere to explore the passage of time and the poetry of endurance. The muted light and soft reflections create a mood of tranquility, inviting the viewer to pause and breathe.
For me, this painting is more than a scene — it’s a reflection on life. We all have moments when we need to anchor ourselves, to find stillness, and to trust that rest is not the end — it’s part of the journey.
