Mother’s Sorrow is one of the most emotional and spiritual paintings I’ve ever created. It portrays that sacred moment between mother and son — the Virgin Mary holding the body of Christ after the crucifixion. To me, this piece represents the deepest form of love: a mother’s love that endures pain, loss, and sacrifice, yet still radiates peace and compassion.

I wanted this painting to speak not just to faith, but to humanity. The grief of Mary transcends time — it’s the same pain any parent feels when faced with loss, and yet there’s something profoundly hopeful in it too. Through her tears, there is acceptance; through His wounds, there is redemption. That balance between sorrow and serenity became the soul of this piece.

The palette centers around deep blues — a color I associate with faith, calm, and eternity. It wraps the figures in stillness, allowing the viewer to focus on the emotional connection between them. The subtle highlights on Mary’s veil and Jesus’ face were layered carefully in soft tones of white and gold to symbolize divine light — grace emerging from grief.

Every brushstroke was an act of reflection. I painted this piece during a time when I was searching for peace within my own struggles, and in doing so, I found comfort in the quiet strength that faith brings. The tenderness in Mary’s embrace and the gentle fall of her tear remind us that love, even when it hurts, is never lost.

Rendered in acrylic on canvas, Mother’s Sorrow combines realism with emotion to express both suffering and transcendence. The textures of the fabric, the softness of the skin tones, and the interplay of light and shadow all work together to create a scene that feels intimate, sacred, and eternal.
